In line with the efforts exerted by the Ministry to support and encourage economic activities in Qatar, Amiri Decree No. (19) of 2006 was issued regulating protection of competition and prevention of monopoly practices through taking the right informed decisions based on integrated and complete data, information, studies and specialized researches related to economic activities in Qatar. Articles No. (3) and (4) of the above-mentioned law have defined monopoly practices that are banned to be adopted or exercised via agreements and contracts. Article No (7) of the same law stipulates forming a committee titled "Competition Protection & Prevention of Monopoly Practices Committee".


The Committee vision is to provide a climate of free competition based on developed and world class regulations free of monopoly practices.


The Committee objectives include: raising awareness of the importance of fair competition, preventing monopoly practices that negatively affects fair competition, creating an integrated and complete database of the economic activity of the state, building highly qualified and skilled cadres and liaising with counterparts in other countries to contribute to developing legal frameworks to ensure fair competition. The committee also adopts a set of values, including non-bias, transparency and efficiency in work performance.
